CSMM architects win seven times at the GERMAN DESIGN AWARDS 2020

Unique work environments: Design Council honours seven new work projects by the CSMM architecture and consultancy office

Munich, 22 November 2019 – following the hotel and retail industries, the concept of design has also arrived in the office at last. And seven wins at the German Design Awards 2020 prove that the Munich-based architecture and consultancy company CSMM is one of the leading developers of customised and functional office design concepts. The Design Council pronounced the architects as winners seven times in the categories of “Excellent Architecture” and “Excellent Communications Design”. The award is one of the most respected international design competitions. “Design in the office is more than just an aesthetic product. It’s about reflecting employees’ needs and work requirements in the structure, materials and space in such a way that it inspires them to feel motivated at work every day and to be exceptionally creative. For CSMM to be selected as the winner for seven different work environments in several major German cities confirms our aspirations and makes us proud,” said Timo Brehme, founder and Managing Director of CSMM.

What does a future-oriented office for lawyers look like? For business consultants? For IT experts? And what about for a company that produces smart household appliances? CSMM provided answers to these questions with seven architectural concepts designed for a range of industries. The categories in which the architects were the winners were just as diverse. On 7 February 2020, they therefore received the “Excellent Architecture: Interior Architecture” awards for the office spaces of international law firm DLA Piper, employee-owned business consultancy Frontier Economics and experimental think tank BSH CO, as well as for that of the international IT form Reply, whose corporate architecture also impressed the jury. The innovative concept designed for the global Linklaters commercial law firm even won two separate awards: one for “Interior Architecture” and the other for “Corporate Identity” in the “Excellent Communications Design” category.

The German Design Award is the Design Council’s top international prize. Its aim is to discover, present and reward unique design trends. Every year, awards are presented to high-calibre entries in product and communications design, all of which are pioneering in their own way in the world of international design. The German Design Award was launched in 2012 and is one of the most respected design competitions worldwide. It is held in high regard far beyond just professional circles. The jury comprises experts from business, education and science as well as from the design industry. For the first time, the Design Council is also giving awards in the category of “Excellent Architecture”.

The competition sets extremely high standards for determining its winners: in a unique nomination process, companies whose product and communications design services demonstrably impress through their creative quality are invited to participate.

The 2020 German Design Awards ceremony took place on 7 February 2020 in Frankfurt. “Having already won three German Design Awards in 2019, these new wins show that we are amongst the best in our field,” enthused Brehme, CSMM’s founder and Managing Director.
