ROOTS & ROUTES, München: Realisation competition

A new heart for the community: OTTO is our concept for a vibrant new residential and commercial complex that offers community—not just a collection of buildings. It is a place that blends in well with its surroundings, responds to the needs of its residents and creates space for people to come together, exchange ideas and build community. In place of the outdated low-rise building from the 1960s, our concept proposes a contemporary multi-use complex that addresses today’s urban challenges while also preserving the local character.

Our vision is to create a dynamic complex that combines clarity of structure with diversity of form. Dividing the site into terraced buildings, linear blocks and distinctive high-rises offers a broad mix of housing types as well as generous open spaces. In lieu of isolated residential and commercial blocks, we designed the complex as a permeable fabric that integrates public and private spaces—at home in its surroundings, promoting outdoor living and breathing new life into the wider area. This novel urban development is not only utilitarian; it also acts as a social and cultural hub.
