In the heritage-listed "Herzog Max" building in the heart of Munich, the internationally active law firm Ashurst deliberately chose the top floor: a space that’s winding, raw, and full of character. It’s not the promise of a sleek new build, but rather a transformation of an existing structure with its own history.
From this, an office with a strong identity was created across approximately 1,400 m²: representative, but not stiff; professional, yet approachable. We embraced the rawness of the space, rather than covering it up: visible ceilings, patina, corners and edges remain—and are complemented by precisely crafted, coloured built-ins that bring clarity and energy to the space. This approach is consciously bold in the legal world: almost a bit "start-up-like," without compromising on seriousness.
Good work environments are never simply black or white. They need both collaboration and solitude. That’s why open communication zones are paired with secluded work areas that ensure calm, focus, and familiarity. Complemented by ergonomic individual workstations, flexible meeting setups, and high-quality conference areas, the design is cohesive: interior architecture, furniture, and a harmonious colour and material scheme.
And because collaboration becomes truly strong when it’s consistently thought through, we’ve been working simultaneously on another project for Ashurst at their Frankfurt office, building on the same shared requirements for contemporary legal work environments: precise, user-centred, and with character.
