The concept for the canteen was designed with the aim of not only providing culinary offerings but also creating an open space for interaction and connection. The location in the Werksviertel in Munich, with its industrial architecture, presents an intriguing contrast to the modern design elements inside the deli, highlighting the fusion of tradition and innovation.
The clear layout of the space ensures efficient use while also allowing for social interactions. The open show kitchen adds transparency and invites guests to observe the cooking process. Instead of a traditional bar, a freestanding island with rounded ends serves as the centrepiece. Accessible from all sides, it provides orientation and emphasises the communicative openness of the concept. These details support the goal of establishing the canteen as a vibrant space for daily exchange – a place where people meet and enjoy.
The colour and material concept focuses on light tones and natural materials: sandy hues, polished screed, natural wood, light natural stone, and stainless steel. The industrial raw construction remains visible, with structures and installations framed in a warm sandy shade. Fixed elements such as the service counter and barista bar are crafted as minimalistic woodwork.
Individual tables with wooden chairs, a long solid wood communal table, and bar seating along the wall and facade offer various types of seating experiences. With a focus on sustainability and durability in both materials and design, the space remains adaptable to meet the changing needs of guests.
