Around 80 employees of PULSION Medical Systems SE, a subsidiary of Swedish medical technology company Getinge, have moved into their new premises at HEADS, one of Munich's landmark office buildings. We took on the full scope — concept, interior design and end-to-end project management. What began as a brief to fit out a floor evolved into a comprehensive transformation project: an office that makes company culture tangible and serves as a strategic instrument for identity and collaboration.
Our starting point was not the floor plan, but the people who would work within it. We approached the project from the ground up — not as a straightforward fit-out, but as a strategic design challenge. Architecture, interior design and workplace consultancy were woven together from the outset. We accompanied the Getinge teams through every stage, from the initial needs assessment to a jointly developed usage manual: workshops on spatial layouts, active involvement in material selection during the build phase, and regular updates bridging the local Munich team with the Swedish headquarters. Relocating is always a cultural reset — which is why we treat change management not as an add-on to the design process, but as a fundamental part of our approach.
Getinge's brand identity is expressed throughout the space with consistency and intention. The company's characteristic blues run across walls and ceilings, the logo becomes an architectural element in its own right, lighting installations echo the forms of medical tubing, and furniture pieces put the company's products on display — from historic milestones to current innovations. Spaces are never a neutral backdrop; they communicate values and foster a sense of belonging.
The spatial concept reflects the full range of modern knowledge work: quiet retreat zones for focused tasks, flexibly furnished rooms for project-based collaboration, and at the heart of it all, a central kitchen and social space — designed to provide precisely what working from home cannot: the chance encounter, the informal exchange, the shared moment. Every area has been conceived with adaptability in mind, ready to evolve as the organisation does.
The Getinge office at HEADS demonstrates that workplace design is not a cost to be managed, but a strategic means of communication — both internally and externally. Spaces are part of a company's brand. They speak to how an organisation values its people.
