The refurbishment and redesign of an existing 850 sqm office space in the heart of Munich was developed for Maxburgand its team of 33 employees. The aim of the project was to transform a traditional office layout with enclosed cellular offices, dark corridors and heavy surfaces into an open, bright and versatile workplace that reflects both the character and operational needs of the client.

The design process began with the development of a bespoke occupancy concept that carefully considered the existing building structure, as well as the technical and sanitary infrastructure. The resulting layout combines offices of varying sizes with open workspaces, meeting rooms and informal communication areas.

The reception area features an inviting lounge setting alongside a freestanding photo wall displaying memorable team moments, reflecting the company culture in a personal and authentic way. Adjacent to this, the client area was organised with meeting rooms of different sizes, complemented by supporting functions such as a coffee station, cloakroom and modernised sanitary facilities.

The “Social Heart”, with its open tea kitchen and lounge areas, forms the communicative centre of the workspace and intentionally integrates views across the Rindermarkt and Munich’s historic old town into the spatial experience. The architectural concept is based on a clear and refined design language, characterised by large-scale glazing, light surfaces and multifunctional bespoke joinery solutions. This approach creates open, light-filled working environments with a calm and generous spatial quality. Additional custom joinery elements integrate storage, spatial division, shelving and further functional features seamlessly into the overall layout.

The colour and material concept combines bright, neutral surfaces with warm accents of oak, textiles and carefully selected colour highlights. Retro-inspired elements, statement lighting and the client’s existing art collection lend the space a distinct identity, atmosphere and individual character.
